Yoginder K. Alagh holds a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He is Chancellor of Central University of Gujarat and Professor Emeritus of the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research. Alagh is a former Minister of State with the independent charge of the Ministry of Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation, Power and Science and Technology. He was also a member of the Planning Commission and the Chairman of the Agricultural Prices Commission. Widely published, he is the author of over a hundred research papers and six books, including the overview volume of the series on State ofthe Indian Farmer: A Millennium Study.
